Is the Duke of M as bad as it looks? Are the Russell Cottages as twee as they look? We'd really like fab views and walking distance of restaurants etc. 700 posts 1 review 2 helpful votes 1. Re: Russell accommodation Russell Cottages are great, fantastically well appointed and in a very central location. However, they have NO views. Duke of Marlborough is pretty basic. Its a good place to go for a drink and look out over the water, but would not recommend for accommodation. I would suggest you have a look at Russell Bay slightly more out of town, but still walkable to restaurants 191 posts 4 helpful votes 2. You could try Commodores Lodge, we dropped in there on one of our day trips to Russell, very nice about $200 per night from memory. Try Russell Top 10 Holiday Park (). They have some very nice one and two bedroom cottages. The hosts are very friendly (Dave and Helen). We stay there often and it is great value for money. You may need to book in advance in the season. We once had dinner at the Duke and it was truely the worst dinner experience I had. Get Dave to recommend you a restaurant. 1 post 4. We stayed at Self-catering place called 'A Place in the Sun' which was just right for me the Mrs and parents in Law for three weeks. Easy to walk to Restaurants. When visiting Russell about a week ago we spotted some villas on the hill overlooking the picked up a leaflet about them from the are called Villa Six at Te Maiki Hill and look very nice be worth checking out.
