All of this life is present all year round, and if you are visiting between June and December, you may have the added bonus of viewing dwarf Minke Whales, Humpback Whales, Dolphins and the annual spectacular coral spawning. It's also not just beautiful reefs and their associated coral gardens that are on the diving radar here either - the SS Yongala wreck is widely recognised as one the finest dive sites on the planet, situated towards the southern end of the reef. Dive Sites & Areas On The Great Barrier Reef It would be naive to write about every single dive site on the Great Barrier Reef, as it's likely you'd be here for a lifetime if so! The few 'best of', and on many liveaboard itineraries, are described below: OSPREY REEF is famous for its 40m+ visibility and almost guaranteed sitings of large numbers of sharks at North Horn. Located in the Coral Sea, and accessible via liveaboard from Cairns, the reef features many small caverns and swim-throughs, making the dive sites here fun for everyone.

Jhumpa Lahiri is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author known for works of fiction like 'Interpreter of Maladies, ' 'The Namesake, ' 'Unaccustomed Earth' and 'The Lowland. ' Who Is Jhumpa Lahiri? Author Jhumpa Lahiri published her debut in 1999, Interpreter of Maladies, winning the Pulitzer Prize. She followed up in 2003 with her first novel, The Namesake, and returned to short stories with the No. 1 New York Times best-seller Unaccustomed Earth. Lahiri's 2013 novel, The Lowland, was partially inspired by real-world political events. Early Life and Education Nilanjana Sudheshna Lahiri was born on July 11, 1967, in London, England, to mother Tapati and father Amar, a Bengali couple who immigrated to the United Kingdom from Calcutta, India. Lahiri's father, a university librarian, opted to relocate to the United States for work, eventually settling in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, when she was still a small child. With the family nickname, "Jhumpa, " coming to be used by school teachers, Lahiri went on to attend Barnard College in New York, focusing on English literature.

For ice and wood, you can buy those, like most Ontario Parks, from the gatehouse at the entrance. You can find a schedule of events on the Bon Echo website. Some highlights you'll want to check out: the "Old Walt" inscription, nearby attractions like Bonnechere Caves, and TurtleFest is amazing for the kids (last year it was in mid-July and features a range of rescued turtles). Camp Cabins We've been camping at the park before, and if that's your style, it's a great experience. Bon Echo offers some really exceptional camping spots, but for my wife and I, we prefer the totally charming camp cabins. The camp cabins are located on Bon Echo Lake, in the middle of a forested area that's calm, quiet, and beautiful at night. It's a perfect vacation spot, and I really recommend staying at least three nights to get the most from the experience. The 12 cabins are around one side of the lake, and near a comfort station that's just for cabin guests, with bathrooms, showers, and a washing room for dishes.

The Town Centre Complex was built of a material that was supposed to turn bright blue as it reacted over time to air pollution; however, in this remote part of the world, there is no air pollution, causing the Town Centre Complex to remain rust colored. During the first four years of its life, architects and town planners from across Canada and around the world – some as far away as Japan – visited Leaf Rapids to view its unique design and infrastructure.

The lodge is situated in beautiful grounds only a short drive from Ohakune. Our room was very comfortable with everything we needed. We also had a terrace with a sun lounger and chairs. Peter dropped us into town for dinner and then picked us up later for a small charge and Heather did some laundry for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the superb breakfast sharing the large table with the other guests. Heather and Peter were very helpful with their advice on the various sights and walks in the area. We would highly recommend the lodge. Date of stay: February 2020 West Midlands, United Kingdom 2 contributions It was our first visit to Ohakune and what a fantastic welcome we received from our hosts, Heather and Pete! ( and adorable Ricky Martin too! ) Ruapehu Country Lodge is beautiful, a real home from home, with lovely grounds backing onto a golf course. All the rooms are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. We stayed for 3 nights over the christmas holidays. Heather and pete looked after us perfectly, with superb breakfasts each morning, cooking us the best christmas dinner and being such incredible hosts!!
