Lake waikare accommodation

Lake Waikare is the largest of several shallow lakes in the upper floodplain of the Waikato River in New Zealand 's North Island. It is a riverine lake, located to the east of Te Kauwhata and 40 kilometres north of Hamilton. It covers 34 km². Due to its shallow nature (its depth is never more than two metres) and the heavy use of fertiliser in the surrounding farming district, the waters of the lake are in poor condition. A 2010 report showed that of all the measured lakes it had the highest trophic level index, a measurement of the amount of pollutants. [1] Pollution also comes from Te Kauwhata sewage works, which is subject to a Regional Council abatement notice for excessive discharges of Kjeldahl Nitrogen, Total Nitrogen, Total Phosphorus and. [2] A health warning was issued in 2020 for cyanobacteria. One of these, Rahui, itself contains a tiny lake - one of New Zealand's very rare lakes within lakes. Numerous flora species are found within the lake catchment basin, crown fern ( Blechnum discolor) being a widespread understory plant. [3] An assortment of birds found in the North Island are present at the national park except for the weka. [4] References C. Michael Hogan. 2009. Crown Fern: Blechnum discolor,, ed. N. Auckland/Waikato Fish and Game in association with the Department of Conservation have since 2006 conducted a number of wetland restoration and creation projects around the margins of Lake Waikare. These works have been designed to restore create and enhance wetlands on highly modified public conservation land, often in areas which had previously been drained and grazed. The first step in these projects usually involves fencing, bunding and contouring the surrounding areas to hydrologically separate the systems in order to minimize the chances of plant and pest fish invasion. All our systems are ephemeral and solely reliant on rainwater which brings multiple advantages from both an ecosystem productivity and management perspective. Ephemeral shallow water wetlands are precisely those which in the past been drained and converted to pasture and are critical for sites for both indigenous and introduced avifauna species.

Is your private beach next to the property or do I need to use a means of transportation to go there? Our waterfront is 500 metres from the house, a walk down the drive through beautiful native forest. All the kayaks, lifejackets, etc, are located there. This is a kayak waterfront not necessarily a swimming beach. Is the property shared with other families or solely the use for our family. Do we need to supply our own sheets and towels. Hi, The 4 bedroom, 1 1/2 bathroom house is solely for your own use, with spa attached to house and under cover. Everything is supplied - all sheets, towels (no beach towels unless you are from overseas), coffee, tea, many sorts of basics like sugar / flour / etc. Property is near the road but quite privately located. Use of owner's pool 80 metres away from guest house and separated by hedges. Kayaks are located down the drive about a 400 meter walk away through beautiful native forest. No sandy beach - suitable for kayaking, very calm waters. Nearest sandy beach 1 km walk down the road but best beaches are around Russell - 6 minute drive from the house - and you have the choice of 3 excellent spots around the little peninsula.
