'They came back this year and there was a bit of persistence on their part and they asked how they could support me, they asked me what I needed, ' he says. 'They said I could have adapted equipment but no more time. Now I have realised that us blind chefs can be better than sighted ones. I can't wing it so I have to have everything ready and organised. I have got it timed and planned down to a T. ' Viewers will next week see Amar, a Scottish entrepreneur who has explored the world despite losing his sight to the genetic eye condition retinitis pigmentosa, cook for paying customers at the London restaurant Mortimer House. His culinary skills are assisted by a few adapted accessories, including talking scales and special measuring spoons. But Amar swiftly discovered that the biggest advantage he held over his sighted rivals, including former footballer John Barnes and TV presenter Gethin Jones, were his four other senses.
Recently done renovation which is very, very nice. The food was okay but nothing to write home about. The menu wasn't extensive and none of our group was impressed by the quality. Unfortunately what really let the place... down was the wait staff. Some very junior and obviously inexperienced staff, eg interrupting a conversation to say "Are you done with that". (I'm all for giving young staff a go but it reflected inadequate training). And some of the senior wait staff whilst pleasant were very casual and flippant eg "yeah yeah" was said over the top of someone speaking, when making a request.
