Booked this accommodation on a last minute business trip to York, travelling alone. Easy to find on edge of city centre and very close to Minster. Parking was provided, which is very useful. Room was small, as advertised, but comfortable and very clean and well presented. The owner welcomed me warmly and assisted with parking and access instructions. Breakfast was served by owner and was freshly cooked, full English - very good. Had to ask for invoice which was provided from a hand written numbered receipt book. Not vat registered if that matters to you. Overall, perfectly positioned, parking, comfortable and great breakfast. Well worth a visit and reasonably priced.

If the decoration at the reception is not to your taste, I'm sorry but it was recommended by the tourist department for the safety of our guests and staff in this critical virus situation following the government guidelines. We've always followed the complete check-in procedure in the way which we think is proper. We do take payments upon arrival rather than upon booking. But the check-in was not "Here's your keys now you pay" as you commented. You arrived at lunch time. I greeted you. Your wife wanted to check the room first. You went into the room and the check-in process had to be paused. Within seconds, you asked me to enter the room. When I got in, I was shocked by what I saw. Your wife was furiously taking the pillow cases off the four pillows and said there were hairs or stains or without pillow protectors. She then pulled the duvet cover up and was satisfied with the bedding.

I checked the pillows, which had been stripped off the cases, all the protectors were there but one, though not perfectly immaculate - to your wife's standard. I tried to show you, but you just stood at the door, ignored me, refused to have a look and said, "It's dirty", without checking it yourself. I said I could change the pillows if you were not happy. You would like to stay and were trying to leave your suitcases in the room while waiting for the pillows to be changed but your wife refused to do so. Later we agreed that you would come back in half to one hour so we could change the pillows. But 15 minutes was not enough to rush for new pillows! It was our lunch time, earlier than the recommended check-in time. I quickly swallowed my lunch and was ready to dash out to the supermarket when I heard the bell ring. You came back sooner than I expected. I had intended to resume the check-in after I changed the pillows, but you simply gave me the keys and said, "We are going home". I didn't know what had happened.
