I'm hoping I'm allowed to use the power of FTC + FEIE + standard deduction combined My euro to dollar converted income last year was about $90, 000 and I'm assuming it will be similar this year. If I'm understanding the rules correctly, I could use the FEIE on, for example, $80, 000 of my income. This would leave $10, 000 to use the Foreign Tax Credit on to allow me to contribute to the Roth (or maybe we could just do $6, 000 for this? I'm not sure exactly how it works–I ask this question later). The $10, 000 would be reportable income on my US taxes, but I wouldn't have to pay taxes on it due to the FTC. In this scenario, the $10, 000 + $26, 239. 84= $36, 239. 84 reported taxable income which would put me in the 12% range. If I'm thinking this through correctly, I wouldn't owe taxes on the $10, 000 because we'd do the Foreign Tax Credit.
