My accommodation has a strict no guest policy. They defend this policy by saying that the majority of the students live in share flats and therefore cannot form support bubbles. However, this also applies the studios despite them being single person dwellings - people who are legally permitted form a support bubble with another household. A couple months into my tenancy they announced that they would allow for the occupants of the studios to apply for exemptions to the no guest policy, specifically if the tenant has a disability or mental health condition. I am someone who struggles with depression and severe generalised anxiety and figured it could not hurt to apply to allow my long term partner to visit me so I don't always have to go to his flat. I got the relevant documentation from my psychiatrist and sent it along to the relevant well-being staff ahead of our meeting. I then proceeded to have an hour long meeting, where it was ultimately pre-decided I did not qualify for an exemption because 'everyone has been struggling with anxiety and depression during the pandemic' and at least I could go to my partner's flat for visits.
