Here are the facts As of July 1st, 2019 HRM had a population of 440, 350 The East Hants corridor along the 102, and potentially Mt Uniacke along the 101, will be added to the Halifax CMA with stats Canada to better reflect the metro area population for the year 2021, these two regions in 2019 had a combined population of 27, 500. Estimating regular growth and combining these regions, we could potentially have a population around 487, 000 firmly establishing us as the twelve largest city in the country, not far behind from London and Kitchener Ontario. It's very feasible in the coming years we'll be seeing growth in the range of ~15, 000 a year for the Halifax Metro However the Centre plan is only planned to accommodate 475, 000 by 2031. With the next five year review coming soon I strongly urge city council to adjust the plan to handle a population of 600, 000 by 2031. We're one of the fastest growing cities in the country, and if housing insecurity in central and western Canada continue to get worse, it'll eventually trickle down to us.

2 million students are expected to move in December from a university to a home address in another region, where there might be different levels of infection and restrictions. This includes 200, 000 students travelling away from universities in London, 235, 000 from the south east, 120, 000 leaving the north west, 123, 000 out of Yorkshire and Humber and 120, 000 from the West Midlands. Things may seem uncertain as of recent with COVID and the drama with the looming election for Nova Scotia premier, but I feel obligated to remind everyone that Canada as a whole has actually done very good for handling this epidemic, while we had our loud minorities as per the status quo, the silent majority understood and respected this is a threat that needed to be taken seriously. The next major hurdle Halifax will have is the return of students from all over Canada and internationally, my SO who will be coming from Calgary August 22nd for Dalhousie will be isolating before I can see her face to face. But now that the hype from COVID is starting to die down, it's becoming the new normal that we're all gradually accepting to live with as a risk like society before you and me long ago. Halifax is bursting at the seams with people aspiring to start a new life here with their loved ones, and brand new centre plan which boasts about tens of thousands of approved units to be built won't meet the demand we face.
