Value for money is something we always look for in our weekends away, so with continental breakfast provisions included, the $130 per night tariff made the Apartments on High at The Grand Maldon an easy choice. Hosts, Dianne and Frank, have done a great job in the two years they have been at the helm of what was previously one of the many hotels in Maldon. We were able to secure the ground floor apartment, one of 3, that are situated at the rear of the hotel site. The two smaller apartments have a basic kitchenette, whilst the larger converted stables apartment is more family friendly. Our apartment looked out onto a small courtyard that took in a scene reminiscent of a villa in Provence, with the historic stables building framed by a large and fully loaded lemon tree. With the sunny days we experienced during our short stay it was a delight to sit at the courtyard table setting soaking up the warm winter sun, reading and sipping on a hot coffee. The apartment was well provisioned with a microwave, small fridge, crockery, cutlery and basic kitchen utensils.

I'm terrified. Her touch was ice cold. I was wearing my Colts hoodie, and her fingers felt almost like ice directly in contact with skin. Her eyes weren't black, wide open, or any other cliché' of a maniac, but sad, almost motherly. My terror shifted. Before I could say anything and before she stepped out of my car, she said three words that forever changed my life. "Take the stairs. " I stared back at her with a look that said, "excuse me? " She didn't repeat herself, but leaned back and away, and exited my car. I sat there watching her slowly waddle away into a beat up apartment building, and then out of my sight. What the HELL was that? I wasn't going to give anymore rides that night. I turn off the app, and drive back to my apartment in Koreatown. Currently that's where I'm sitting, my head still in my hands trying to comprehend what happened. I stumbled in to the back door of my 8 floor apartment building that night. I live on the 7th floor. This place has been standing since the late 1940s.
